A wish for Christmas

To Matt and Josh at Reedy Press, everybody who helped me write Beer, Brats, and Baseball: St. Louis Germans, and all who picked up the book, Frohe Weihnachten und ein gl├╝ckliches Neues Jahr!

Free shipping

From now until Christmas, I’m dropping the shipping fee on autographed copies of Beer, Brats, and Baseball: St. Louis Germans and Hoosiers and Scrubby Dutch: St. Louis Germans. Order by e-mailing me at stlmerkel@att.net. I’ll bill you $21.50 a copy.

What’s ahead

On Sunday, Dec. 2, I’ll be at the St. Louis Genealogical Society Book Jamboree from 1-3 p.m. at the society’s office at 4 Sunnen Drive, Ste. 140, in Maplewood. It’s always a great place to buy books on local history.
Then on Thursday, Dec. 6, I’ll be back at the German Cultural Society Hall at 3652 S. Jefferson Ave. for the “Alle Jahre Wieder” Christmas Show and Dinner. Copies of the book will be available for $21.50, including tax. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.
The cost for the meal and program is $30. For more information and reservation, call John Pappert at 314-894-2198 or e-mail johnpappert@hotmail.com.

Back to the German Cultural Society hall

Each time I sign books at the German Cultural Society’s hall at 3652 S. Jefferson Ave., I get a new appreciation of German culture. Tonight (Saturday, Dec. 1) was no exception. At the Tag des Deutschen Kultuervereins (Day of the German Cultural Society), members got a free meal and were treated to lots of dance numbers by the younger set. There’s no dearth of young people in this group. Those who bought books from me included Mike Wendl, who is on my left in the picture.
