I was overjoyed to learn that the executive committee of the German-American Heritage Society Saint Louis selected me recently to receive the group’s Stemmler-Hecker Award. It will be presented at the organization’s 2015 Diplomatic Reception and Dinner commemorating its founding. The event will be on March 14 at the St. Louis Racquet Club in Ladue.
The Stemmler-Hecker Award recognizes special service to German American friendship. I’m told I am receiving it because of my book Beer, Brats, and Baseball: St. Louis Germans and my work to restore honorary German street signs in St. Louis.
An award like this means more than having another plaque to put on the wall. It signifies that people who should know think you’ve done something right. That means a lot.
