In a week, I’ll turn in the final proofs. It’s been more than a year since I first started. The book looks good. In a little over six weeks, it’ll be out. I’ll have my release party from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Feasting Fox Restaurant, 4200 S. Grand Blvd. in St. Louis. Lorraine and I are going on line for lederhosen for me to wear at that and other signing events. Things are going really fast.
Yesterday I dropped the last of the first round of proofs off to my editor, Matt Heidenry. We talked about a number of things we had to do before the final product is etched in stone around July 18. That includes one more readthrough and some possible minor changes on the cover. It also may include a dedication.
So this morning I wrote a dedication, around the time I put this flag up in front of our house. It pays patriotic homage to the Germans who came to St. Louis and to all immigrants and includes the date July 4, 2012. I’m not sure if they’ll use it. If they do, I hope you enjoy it. Happy Fourth, all you sons and daughters of those who came to these shores.
As anyone can see, I’m head over heels about the book as the month ends. I’ve spent a lot of time in the last two or three days finishing up the proofreading. Matt Heidenry should get it on on Monday. When he’s done, it comes back for a final read. I’m also working on the website and setting up appearances for the fall. Can’t wait for July.
With this post, Heidi the Beer, Brats, and Baseball beer lady officially moves to a new web address I’ve been working on: stlouisgermans.com. I’ve posted at jimmerkelauthor.wordpress.com for several months but want to be at the new address before we publish the book. She’s also been on Facebook at the address Beer, Brats, and Baseball: St. Louis Germans and occupies the bottom left corner of the cover of my book of the same name. In the new website, there will be lots of neat features that will help people get the most enjoyment from Beer, Brats, and Baseball as well as learn about the German community here. I’ll have a link to the old website. Reading it since I started gives a sense of the commitment needed to write a book.
I picked up the last stack of proofs from Matt Heidenry today. right. I read it over. It looks pretty good. I’ll spend the rest of the week working on it. I also worked on my new website. As you can see, the website looks pretty good. The guy with the knobby knees at left looks sort of like I’ll look when I wear lederhosen at my release party from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Feasting Fox, 4200 S. Grand, St. Louis.
